FROM AN INTERVIEW WITH FR. DAVID: I was the priest here at Assumption parish from 1979 through 1985. In 1985 I was given a new assignment, but was granted the opportunity of returning to Assumption in 2001. Our parish has a very interesting history. It was originally a daughter parish (a mission church plant) of Ss. Constantine & Helen Orthodox Church here in Galveston, which is now under the Serbian jurisdiction. Some of the original start-up monies came directly from St. Nicholas the Passionbearer (the martyred Czar of Russia).
Our parish has been experiencing changes and in one sense, we are still "building" our programs and ministries. We have a Greek School and Greek Men's Club. Our catechetical school is lectionary-based.
